We were in the South of Uganda, in a place called I had been teaching in a Church there for a week and we decided to take a 'day off' so we drove to an area where there was a huge Lake and on the way to the Lake we saw women and children sitting in the baking sun, with tiny home made hammers held in their bleeding hands. They were hacking at huge rocks making them into small pieces of gravel....no shade, no water just ROCKS and SUN!! We were told that there was not any guarantee that a truck would come and buy the gravel.
I could not believe what I was seeing - it was one of the most desperate, hopeless sights I had ever seen and now I had seen it my heart was breaking for the women and children.
How could I help them? What could I do? My mind was racing as I thought of ways to set them free from this modern day torture.
So it was that God began to crack my comfortable, pleasure hardened heart and pour in just a fragment of His love for the African people.
